Apathy Abounds

No emails from outraged citizens that we printed a tear-out "Troops Out" Poster on Page 1.

This leads me to 2 conclusions:
1. No one gives a shit about anything.
2. Everyone agrees with us.
Any thoughts? Anyone? Anything? Are you out there?

I meant to comment on it before. I LOVE it. Well, I may not put it in my window due to size, but I would gladly wear it on a tee-shirt. As you may or may not have read in CTRPLLR, I am not a fan of troop "supporting" bumper stickers.

Jon. There is a difference between supporting the troops and supporting our government's use of them. While I do not believe that we have any business being in the middle east, I have the utmost respect for the men and women that serve our country.

H. I don't think it's that people don't care they just care more about Tim Hortons screwing up their double double. Also I would assume that your wonderful magazine appeals to a demographic that is more likely to share your opinions on this sort of thing.

Wow, thanks for the info overdrive!

Of course I know that. And I never said I didn't support the troops at all, what I said was that I am not a fan of the troop supporting stickers. I feel that those stickers, and particularly the one that says "if you don't stand behind our troops, feel free to stand in front of them" don't give off the impression that they are supporting just the troops themselves, but rather, the military system as a whole. Which is why I love this image, it makes it very clear that it supports the troops in that it wants them alive and out of harm's way.

If you really want to know what I think about it, and I have thought about it, I put my CTRPLLR article on the subject up here: http://jonjohnsonwords.livejournal.com/1066.html

YES~ dialogue. Amazing.

Overdrive... you know, we have conflicting values over the military system in Canada and Abroad.... but I understand your perspective and I hope that you understand mine; that Canada should not be anywhere engaging in battle or occupying a nation.... and we certainly shouldn't overextend our supplies and soldiers to the point that we are unable to help any other country on this sorry planet.
We ARE part of the G8, we're supposed to be ahead of the game.

Anyways, thanks for stirring up debate.

Jon - thanks for posting... i'll have a reread through your article now.
